Toners

One thing I have't talked about in a while  is skincare. But this post on acid toners has been waiting a while to pop up. When we see the word acid we perhaps get a little scared, of course why would we want to put acid on our face?! However, the % of acid in these toners is relatively low and therefore safe enough to cause some impressive results on our skin.

The whole process of acid based toners was introduced to my by the goddess of skincare Caroline Hirons. She believes that toner should be the second step in our routine; it should balance the ph levels of your skin after cleansing, exfoliate, hydrate and, most important, help for the next steps of your routine (serum and moisturise) to penetrate more thoroughly.

Now before I learnt this information my every other day routine would be a gritty exfoliator. What I then learnt from Hirons is that this can help to spread infection if we have a spot and does not restore the ph level on our skin. Acid toners are applied on a cotton wool pad and then just smooth them over my face and neck.

Since introducing this step I can honestly say that I've seen improvements in my skin like no other. My skin now doesn't experience crazy blemishes, it feels smoother and almost more radiant. The two toners I switch between are the Clarins Gentle Exfoliater Brightening toner and the Pixi Glow Tonic. Now I feel almost embarrassed to admit that I can't really detect anything different between these two products apart from the smell. If I was 'suffering' a period of bad skin however, I would perhaps be more inclined to use the Clarins one as, from experience, this has always helped to clear my skin. I tend to put these toners in my nightie routine, as suggested by Hirons, and I only use them about 3 times a week.

The New Foundation

It is a rare occasion when a foundation graces the pages of FolkesThinks. However, with a SpaceNK incentive soon to expire I (as always) gave I good think as to what my splurge was going to be. I was pretty confident that I wanted a new foundation due to some important events coming up over the summer. After a lot of deliberating with friends I finally decided that the 'one' was going to be the updated formula of the Laura Mercier Silk Crème Moisturizing Photo Edition Foundation

Now I never owned the original. Infact my only experience with the brand is the tinted moisturiser, the famous secret camouflage concealer and, of course, their bath range. I had read a lot of mixed reviews about the updated foundation but decided to take a leap and try it (note this was a definitely a leap at £35!).

You all know I love a dewy, luminous base which is why I opted for this formula rather than the oil free version. I also was sucked into the label 'photo edition.' One trait I always suffer with is flashback on photos, and with one of these summer events being my graduation ceremony I do not want a record of my big shiny forehead.

Trying to find my perfect colour match was a little difficult. That would perhaps be the main down point of this foundation, the colour range is not particularly impressive. The one I have isn't peeerfect, but once blended and buffed into the skin it gives a really nice base. In the after photo (the second one) please note I do not have concealer on. I just wanted to focus on the difference in complexion.

So far I am loving this foundation. I've even worn it on a day when I didn't have a special event - now that's saying something in the Emily Folkes makeup bag. The coverage is on point, and it lasts so well. For example, I wore this for my graduation ball a few weeks ago and it lasted from 1pm in the afternoon till 1am. That deserves a round of applause I think. Oh and most importantly, the photos from the evening are not scarred with my flashback face. Bingo.

What are your favourite high end foundations or Laura Mercier products for that matter? I would to try out more from her brand.

Manicure Heroes

Instead of boring you with another post dedicated to my love for the Rimmel Salon Pro formulas I thought I would share with you some of my favourite products for the perfect manicure. After all, I do like to keep Monday posts aligned with the #ManicureMonday theme.

One of my first steps is to use the Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover. A cool tingly gel that you apply over your cuticles, leave a few minutes and then push down. Simple. I then like to buff down my nails to get rid of any ridges. The Nails Inc 4-Way Buffer is my go to tool for this step. Sometimes I just leave my nails after using this as it helps to create shiny, healthy nails.

After using my chosen polish and leaving it a few minutes to dry I use the Rimmel Finishing Touch Ultra Shine Top Coat. This stuff is a hero product in my beauty books. Infact, it's probably a number 1 in my nail polish collection. It not only provides a seriously good shine but it reaaally helps against chipping. The price is the final bonus. I can't recommend this product enough.

Finally, I spray my nails with the Mavala Mavadry Spray because who has time to wait around for their manicure to dry? This stuff dries my nails in seconds.

What are your favourite things to help with your DIY manicure?

Blow.

Last Friday was my Graduation Ball. Instead of spending hundreds on a dress, that I will probably only wear once, I decided to stick with a firm favourite in my wardrobe from Lavish Alice and invest on my hair. Whilst I love applying my own makeup I am in no way a pro in the hair department. So when it comes to a more special occasion I'm always in need of some assistance.

Now, I never envisaged writing a post about this experience - hence the excellent Snapchat quality saved picture! I am always apprehensive about trying somewhere new in the hair-dresser world, mainly due to a bad wowcher experience. There is only one lady I trust to do my hair and, unfortunately, I couldn't transport her from the North to London! Nevertheless the search had to begin to try and find somewhere that would create something I'm happy with.

My Instagram searches led me to discover Blow. A salon with a menu, designed around the concept of 'Fast Beauty': literarily you are in and out within half an hour. With a lot of recommendations from bloggers I follow and noted magazines I decided to give them a go.

As I always have my hair loose I chose the undone bun style (one of the six styles you can choose from). Usually they will wash your hair if you're having a blow dry but up styles work best on second day hair.  I was more than happy with the result and I felt (without blowing my own trumpet) that it added a bit of sophistication to my outside without the expensive dress price tag.

I was so happy with the experience of Blow: from the hair stylists, to the products they used and just the nice, clean atmosphere! Situated centrally in Covent Garden it's super handy and I thoroughly recommend a visit. I will definitely be going again for my graduation ceremony.

Bourjois Rouge Edition

About a month ago, after a lot of hype, and some pretty packaging, I finally purchased the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet and Aqua Laque. So after six months of waiting, and a month of trying, I have finally gathered my thoughts on the two.

First, lets talk texture. The name Aqua Laque certainly represents the feel of it. Indeed, it's like putting water on the lips. It feels so weird. I'm still not sure if I like it or not. The Velvet on the other hand is a thick, creamy texture that is very easy to apply and blend. I was surprised at how smooth this felt on my lips considering it is a matt finish.

Now in terms of pigmentation both are totally different. I would describe the Aqua Laque as a gloss. Its great if you're looking for a super, shiny gloss and I love to wear this on top of some of my natural toned lipsticks. This is, then, slightly flawed considering this product is described as a lipstick. But I will give it a thumbs up for the whole wet, shine look. The Velvet formula however is on top form when it comes to pigmentation. What I especially love about it is its stay-proof formula. This thing seriously doesn't budge. More importantly it doesn't dry out, unlike some more pricey matt products.

For under £10 I would have to conclude that the Rouge Edition Velvet is a must have. If you are looking for something that REALLY does last all day (albeit with a top up post lunch!) then this seriously is a makeup bag essential.

Rimmel Salon Pro

It's a rare occasion that I keep the same colour manicure for over two weeks. However, the Rimmel Salon Pro formula in the shade Hip Hop has been ticking many buttons over here! Before I rave about the colour I just want to talk about the formula. It contains 'lycra' which is supposed to make this polish 'ultra flexible.' Now, I have no idea what that means in terms of effects, but I can say that the polish is very easy to apply. But ultimately it is the chip-proof quality of this polish which makes it a keeper. I took this photo after wearing it for 4 days. Despite the slight chip on one finger I think that's pretty impressive. Lets just appreciate 4 days of no chips (both hands up emoji here please!).

In London we have been having a bit of a heat wave so the bright read/orange tones of this have helped me to channel my summer spirit. Also, if you were a fan of Chanel's summer polish Holiday then this is a perfect dupe for that famous shade. At £4.49 these polishes have to be a firm favourite for the DIY manicure. What are your favourite polishes for summer?

Estée Lauder Base

If you're a regular reader over here then you will notice the a common feature of the Estée Lauder Base. To be precise this obsession dates back further than the beginnings of Folkes Thinks. Indeed, DayWear BB was the one that set off my heartstrings when I was 17. As I've always said, I'm not really in to the heavy base, cakey foundation routine. I always prefer something lighter and more natural. As a very light and sheer formula the DayWear was perfect for my school days. In fact writing this post has made me want to repurchase for the summer months. It has a delicious cucumber scent to it, making you feel so fresh as you apply.

Last year however, I got very excited for the launch of the Double Wear All-Day Glow BB. Despite my frustration at searching far and low (literally, I went to Fleet Street Boots, Selfridges Birmingham and Boots Teeside Park) for shade 1 I really did fall in love, again, with this purchase. I'd say its slightly more heavier coverage than the DayWear BB. This shade is more suited to my skin tone and lasts all day. I've particularly loved wearing this in the colder months.

My most recent purchase, as you will have seen, is the EE Enlighten Creme. At first I really wasn't sure about this one: I couldn't even notice applying it on my skin. However, after time I have really come to enjoy wearing this product. I would say this is one of those 'eurgh, I can't be bothered to go out but my skin needs a boost' helping kind of product! I love it when I don't want too much makeup on but want my skin to have a little umph.

Now, my aim of this post was never to conclude with a favourite. I love all of these bases and so does my skin! I have never experienced a breakout and they all contain SPF 30 or plus which is great as my moisturiser doesn't. However, if I was to only buy one forever I think I would have to say the DayWear BB, purely for its buildable coverage, and its even finish.

Foodie London

The past three years of living in London has led me to some wonderful, taste bud experimentation! Whilst I love to eat healthily I'm also a big believer in balance so I do occasionally pig out (by occasionally I mean every week!)  If you follow me on Instagram then you will definitely know what I'm on about here. I love trying new places to eat out and so I thought I would collate some of my favourite food experiences in London.

Eat Pizza.

If a friend is asking me somewhere to try for dinner I will ALWAYS say Homeslice. Firstly, because who doesn't love pizza. Secondly, I promise you will love it even more here. A huuuuuge pizza where the menu is written daily on the blackboard and your pizza is divided in two.  I thoroughly recommend half sweetcorn/chorizo and half caprese. Mmmm I'm drooling as I type.

Afternoon tea.

As you will see from my instagram, one of my favourite pastimes is to eat cake. I absolutely love the experience of Afternoon Tea and get far too excited when the waiter arrives with the sandwich tray. I recently visited Sketch and would have to give it a gold star in the Afternoon Tea books (trust me, I've tried a few)! With a seriously cool pink interior, bizarre toilets and just delicious cakes (the toasted cheese sandwich was also a bonus) this place is a must-do on a trip to London. Situated just off Regents Street its a handy location for when you've finished your retail therapy.

Go Raw.

My beautiful friend Kathryn (check out her foodie Instagram) is my inspiration when it comes to raw goodness. She introduced me to the wonderful creations produced by the Wild Food Cafe. Raw cake is absolutely delicious from this place, seriously you'll find you and your date scraping the plate with your fingers. Who needs normal cake when it can taste this good! Tucked away in Neals Yard this place has a lovely atmosphere.

Try a Doughnut.

One of my favourite things to do in London is to stroll around Borough Market. For some reason I find it very relaxing looking at the many varieties of food and searching for samples! But my favourite stand has to be Bread Ahead. Here they sell the most delicious doughnuts I have ever tasted. From velvet chocolate to honeycomb crumb, they offer a variety of flavours and they're just oozing with delicious chocolate cream. Whilst this is a highly calorific treat, everyone once in a while can't hurt right?!

I'm always up for trying new food and restaurants, any recommendations?

Topshop Silver Spoon

The other day I could resist but pick up this Topshop polish in the shade Silver Spoon. As it wasn't a shade of blue I felt the purchase was justified. I definitely need to widen the range of colour in my nail polish collection. A lilacy, silvery colour, it just stood out to me as different. At first I was a little disappointed that it had a matt-ike texture (you know I'm all about the shiny topcoat) but fell in love as I realised the meaning behind its name. It catches the light so well, enhancing the silvery tones of the polish. I think this is going to be a firm favourite in my collection. Unfortunately there wasn't a link online for this so hopefully you can find it in your local Topshop!

An Overnight Hero

Receiving a Space NK £5 incentive usually results in a lot of planning in my books. I can't waste a voucher and so I take time in researching what will be the best investment. For me, this means high-end skin care. After reading a lot of praise (seriously, nearly on every blog) about the Sarah Chapman Overnight Facial I decided this would be the one.

This isn't like any oil I have tried before. It has a much thicker consistency unlike something like the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Oil. This texture helps to massage it deep into the skin and the product comes with an instruction booklet of how to do your own facial.

This product produces instant results. My skin feels plumper, brighter and it soothes any redness on my skin. Also, the smell is just heavenly! It has that clean, spa scent about it, you know what I mean? These effects continue on to the morning where my skin really feels like its had an overnight miracle. At the moment I'm using this product about everyone other week, when my skin is looking a tad dull and blemish dotted. But I would seriously rate this product up at the top in my skincare.

The brushes

Over the years of my makeup hoarding it is only inevitable that I have also grown quite a brush collection. Whilst I perhaps should have titled this post my 'Real Techniques and Mac favourites' there are in fact a few others that feature. So, without further ado, here are a few of my brush essentials.

From left to right (second picture) we have what I call the 'face gamers.' An old and, sadly, discontinued favourite is the Jemma Kidd Flat Top Foundation Brush. Whilst this was initially an applicator for foundation I have since used this for cream blush. The flat top makes it easy to pick up the product whilst the soft bristles make it really nice to blend in. If you're in search I think there are a few about on Ebay. Next is my recent favourite Real Techniques Bold Metals Tapered Blush Brush. As you will have read in a previous post this is one of my favourite brushes. Whilst these are a little pricey I believe they are worth it! Then it is the trusty Mac 168. Known as the 'large contouring brush' I use this for bronzer. Its angled head makes it so easy to do this step. Lastly we have the Real Techniques Blush Brush. This brush is always in my makeup bag. When I'm not fussed with bronzer its just such an easy, big brush to help slap on the blush.

Then its all about my eye brushes. I never read much about the Body Shop brushes but their Blending Brush is a great friend when it comes to eyeshadow blending. The quality of the bristles is much different to the likes of the Mac blending brush but it is equally as good, if not better, at blending. Again, a Real Techniques Bold Metals Pointed Crease Brush.  Finally the Mac 217, do I even need to say anything?! This brush is holy grail in a beauty bloggers bag and I own 2. You know, one for applying and one for blending…definitely essential.

What are your favourite brushes?

The Dissertation Pick-Me-Ups!

The silence can finally be broken. I have finished university; there are no more essays to write. During my absence I have still, however, been buying and trying lots. So as my first post back I thought I would share with you a few products that have become my staples in the trying times of dissertation writing!

When I first purchased the Estee Lauder Enlighten EE cream you'll remember that my thoughts weren't 100% there yet towards this. However, after a good month of testing I have to say I love this cream. Whilst it is a very light coverage, for me it is just perfect as an everyday base. As it says, it really evens out the skin tone to create a natural and even base.

I'm not sure if I'm embarrassed to say this but a lot of essay writing has meant a lack of hair washing. There was just not enough time to wash it every other day, I'm sorry. But to avoid scaring people in the library with my greasy locks I decided to try Ruth Crilly's COLAB dry shampoo. I wasn't expecting a lot from this but after ALOT of use I'm seriously impressed and have since bought the bigger size bottle. As a brunette this is definitely worth it for there is NO talcum powdery whiteness. I was able sometimes to go 4 days without a hair wash... (insert monkey face emoji here).

My skin has changed in this stressful time away. I would no regard myself as a combination-oily gal and so I had no choice but to invest in a powder. After reading a lot of raves about it I chose the Bourjois Healthy Balance powder. Not only does this product smell amazing (seriously, it's like a tropical juice) it does a wonderful job of sorting out my shiny t-zone.

I returned back to an old favourite with the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Dim Infusion. Just a quick swoop on my cheeks seemed to perk my complexion right up, hiding my lack of sleep.

After recommending the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet lipsticks to my lovely friend stylegirlscout and hearing her love for it I decided to give them a try myself. I choose the shade Happy Nude Year and can now finally understand the love for these lipsticks. They are so creamy and, with the help of a few top ups, seriously last all day. I think I would almost have to say these are better than the Nars Matt Lip Pencils…I think!

The New Things

I did warn you that I may be quiet on here for a while. But the end of uni is, now, nearly in sight! In the middle of writing essays I've still be busy with trying some new things and spending some Christmas Vouchers. I always advice saving those vouchers for the gloomy March/April months when you're in the midst of essay writing and exams rather than in the post-Christmas sales. Anywaaaay

We all know my love for Estée Lauder bases so after seeing a few beauty bloggers rave about the new Enlighten Even Effect Skintone corrector I was temped to give it atry. Now, in all honestly, I'm still indifferent to this product. I'm shade one, the lightest of the three shades, but when I apply it I almost can't notice a difference on my skin. It definitely evens out my complexion but so far I haven't recognised the boost I would like from a light-coverage base.

The Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Cream Shadow in the shade Beach Bronze was a little bit of a gamble for me. I hadn't even tried it in store, I just went off Pixiwoo and Tanya's recommendations. However, I'm seriously impressed so far. The staying power is incredible. And the colour has great pigmentation. What's great about this is you can really build it up to create a brown smokey eye. A big thumbs up from me!

After Lily Pebble's post I quickly searched ebay for a Nails Inc Alexa Edit in Winter Lilac. This shade is part of a set but if you're lucky there are quite a few people selling the shades individually on ebay. I've loved wearing this shade for the transitional March weather.

I picked up one of the new Bourjois Colourband Eye Shadowsticks in the shade Beige Minimalist. This is quickly becoming a new everyday favourite. I'm seriously impressed with how well this lasts on my oily eyelids. My only dislike is its not as creamy consistency as I would like and I do sometimes feel like I'm stabbing my eyelid a little...

Last but not least is a repurchase of my favourite, favourite Nars Creamy Concealer. Is it dramatic to say I don't know where I'd be without this in my makeup bag? Seriously, it's a keeper.

February Favourites

It will come as no surprise that I have been loving the Max Factor Clump Defy Volumizing Mascara. Wow. Ah-mazing. Length, natural, no clumps, need I say anymore. Big thumbs up and I highly, highly recommend.

I had a slight haul with the new Real Techniques Bold Metals collection. My favourite has been the Tapered Blush Brush. It picks up the product so well and the angled effect helps for application. And of course what's not to love about the colour and shape of these brushes?! I can't wait to burn down my diptique and display them.

Now I have to apologise about this one. I have been using the Rimmel Finishing Touch Top Coat for a while now and have been rather silent on the wonders of it. If you're an avid beauty blog reader then I'm sure you will have heard the famous sec he viche top coat. Admittedly it is one heck of a good top coat but my experience saw quiet a few clumpy incidents which meant it chipped easily and was easy -and addictive- to pull off. However, I would have to say that I prefer the Rimmel. It's price and the effect it gives makes me one happy nail painter…! It provides an amazing shine and has helped my manicures last for a good seven days! I can't rave enough about this top coat. Bravo Rimmel.

Continuing on with the manicure theme I have been praising the Mavala Mavadry spray. In my opinion its genius: spray, speed, go. The past few weeks has seen me go from one nail polish to another and I've loved having to not sit around and wait till they're dry.

This month has seen me return to an old Mac favourite: the Pro Longwear Blush in Rosy Outlook. This is such a lovely light pink colour that I've really enjoyed using as an everyday, natural blush.

What have been your favourites this month?

The Food Post

The main purpose of setting up FolkesThinks was to share my thoughts about makeup and skincare. Whilst I've always been aware how important nutrition was in regards to skin and, the oh-so-desired, glow it's only been since 2013 that I've started to take a real interest with my diet. I will always recommend skincare for spots and a dull complexion but only now I've realised how much comes from what we put in! We can spend the £70 on the expensive serums and what-nots but at the end of the day, if you're consuming a high sugar diet you might as well have put your money in the big. I mean ever eaten half a bag of percy-pigs and woken up in the morning with a new spot?! Yup, I'm sure we've all been there. Since making changes within my diet I've noticed a change in my skin and also my energy levels, which I've been rather grateful for!  So the post has finally come where I've decided to share with you my routine, tips and food loves that I believe have helped my skin and more...

It all began with the power of green tea and water. I promise you that if you increase your water intake the results on your skin will show. It's a no-brainer. Additionally, I drink a lot of green tea. I personally, love the taste and find that it really helps with bloatedness, de-stressing and providing a caffeine hit. I particularly recommend adding one to your morning routine. I've recently been trying Pukka's Supreme Matcha tea for an extra energising kick in the afternoon. Matcha is purer form of green tea, so a little goes a long way in the energy oomph department.

My favourite meal of the day is breakfast. I believe this is the best time of the day to get that health kick to set you off on the right start. For me it's all about the porridge (seriously, I'm a porridge geek) and the toppings. I've been having chia seeds for a while now - a great source of fiber, omega 3 and protein. Recently I've been adding a spoonful of maca powder, as it's rich in vitamin B, C and E it's great for helping to balance out hormones!

Snacking can sometimes be a tricky one. But I've discovered a lot of healthy/vegan snack bars that help with that 11am/3pm tummy rumbling hit. I'm always up for a 9 bars or Eat Natural Bars. Recently I've discovered these from Planet Organic bars which were bloooomin' delicious and with an extra bit of added protein you really can't say no. If you're a sweet tooth and looove the chocolate then try these Chocolate Milks from Rebel Kitchen. Dairy and Sugar free I was really surprised at how chocolately it tasted. If you're looking for a bit of a kick from water then I'm sure these will be up your street. Finally, you cannot beat the power of the almond! Packed full of protein I only need about 5 of these to feel full. Their healthy high fat content makes them amazing for helping on a weight loss diet.

But at the end of the day I still love Pizza and Pret sandwiches. I like to live by what I call the 60:40 or sometimes it the 80:20, something I was definitely inspired by from The Londoner's post. If you follow me on instagram or twitter then you will know I love cake and pizza. I try and eat as healthily as possible in the week but when it comes to fatty Friday, yes I will have that pizza, or GBK. I refuse to give these treats up. What it's about is balance: being happy with what you eat and never regretting something the morning after!

Essie Maximillian Strasse-Her

I have not stopped wearing this shade for the past two weeks. An old classic in my collection but one I haven't shared here,  Essie Maximillian Strasse-Her. Whilst the name defeats me, the colour is a real container in my nail polish draw. Yes, I know I love the blues but I think this can be accepted as  more of a green/grey/blue…you know what I mean?! I think this is the perfect 'I don't know what to wear shade' in the difficult season transitions.

Weekly Loving #1

We all know my favourite kinda post is a favourite's post. So, as inspired by ghostparties, I've decided now to do a weekly favourites post. This will probably consist mostly of makeup and will force me to try the hidden parts of my makeup storage.

I'm sure it will come as no surprise that I'm in love with the new Real Techniques brushes. Whilst some people are complaining about the price these really feel like professional high quality brushes. They blend so well, feel sophisticated to hold and are so soft on the skin. The tapered face blush makes me smile every time I hold it!

For the past two weeks now I've been loving an old favourite - Estée Lauder's Pure Colour Lipstick in the shade Crystal Nude. This is my 'my lips but better shade.' It is a lovely natural colour but has such a nice shine to it. If you're a MAC Patisserie fan then I would definitely recommend this - it's much creamier!

I was given the Body Shop Almond Hand and Nail butter for christmas however, after leaving it at home, this was the first time I was able to try. From first dip I was seriously impressed. It was so nourishing and gave instant results even my boyfriend wanted to try! For its price it seriously deserves a  round of applause.

I finally got round to purchasing the Soap and Glory Solar Powder. Divided in two it has a dark and light shade of bronze. I've been swirling my brush around and been creating some Nars-laguna-esque bronze. So far, this is one of the best drugstore bronzers I've tried.

The New Thing

If you're a regular reader then you will probably know when I find something I love I become a boring beauty blogger and stick to it. Hence why I'm on my second bottle of the L'Oreal Telescopic mascara and you never see me rave about any other.

However, after repeatedly reading about the wonders of the Max Factor Clump Defy Volumizing Mascara I was curious to give it a try. When I first saw the brush I was rather intrigued as to how this was going to give any volume - it's a rubber with very small brushes/bristles (what do you even call them?!). But I was seriously surprised after first application. It does what it says. There are no clumps and it coats ever lash "straightly" whilst giving a lovely bit of length and volume. The L'Oreal gives amazing, and I will say longer length and volume, however it does have the tendency to get a lil' bit clumpy. The Max Factor is definitely going to be my new everyday favourite.

Bold Metals

The release of the Real Techniques Bold Metal Collection made me one excited beauty blogger. After being trapped in the library, as always, I went out on Friday to celebrate finishing my first hand in…by a trip to Boots. What could be better ehy?!

I chose the 300 Tapered Blush Brush and the 201 Pointed Crease brush. Whilst these brushes are more pricier than the other Real Techniques products the Bold Metal's collection is all about luxury. The fibres of the brush are softer and of a high quality in order to pick up more product. They are heavy weighted in order to sit in your hand comfortably, have control in your hand and not roll around on your beauty table.

So far I have only have time to use the 201. It felt rather heavy and unusual at first but it was much easier to create a smokier look in the crease! Personally, I love how these brushes look and from experience I would say they're on par with MAC. I can't wait to add more to my brush collection.

Which one's have you got so far?

January Favourites

So I've finally broken the silence over here. With a very busy few weeks of essay writing, starting my final term at uni and my dissertation (God help me) I feel like I can be excused. Anyway, to start off my first post of 2015 I thought I'd do a favourites.

First off is the Aesop Resurrection Hand Balm. My hands have seriously suffered in this bloomin' cold weather. Whilst the most sensible option would have been to invest in a pair of gloves I decided to opt for this. The smell is rather luxurious and its such an intensely rich formula that it absorbs into my hands rather quickly creating an instant result. This hand balm is also good for cuticles and has helped with my nails too.

For Christmas one of my makeup presents was the Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in Emmerville. A gold eye shadow in a cream formula is always a hit in my books. This is so easy to apply and has really good staying power. Can I praise the packaging too?! This really is a little gem.

Along with the theme of dryness, my face went through a patch of disliking my origins moisturiser. After looking through some samples I thought I'd give the Kiels Ultra Face Cream a go. It's a weird one if I'm honest. It's not an overly rich or thick formula yet it gives so much moisturising! This time last year I suffered with bad dry, almost flaky patches on my cheeks. But not this time around. I am loving this cream, day and night.

After hearing a lot of raves from Amelia Liana and Hello October about this product I thought I'd give it ago. The Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in East End Snob is my first neutral lip liner, believe it or not. I've never really understood the point of them. However, I have really go into the swing of this. It makes my lips look fuller and acts as a really good base coat for my everyday fave Mac Patisserie!

Last, but certainly not least, is the Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Descanso. I was one very lucky girl this Christmas and under my tree was the Nars Digital World Lip Pencil set. So far this one is my favourite. A lovely, pink-nude everyday staple.
